CompSeek (compseek.com) helps people find matches in public competition livestreams. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions: [email protected].
What we show about athletes
Athlete, team and competition pages are built from public competition results (mainly Smoothcomp) and public livestreams on YouTube. We read the scoreboard in those videos to find where each match starts. We don't publish anything that isn't already public.
Anyone can ask us to hide an athlete's page, for example a parent asking about a child. Use "Wrong match, or want this profile hidden?" on the athlete's page, or email us. We act on these requests by hand.
If you create an account
- Your email address, to send sign-in links and the alerts you ask for. A password is optional; if you set one it is stored hashed by our sign-in provider and we never see it.
- The athletes you link as yourself, and the athletes and teams you follow, so we can show your matches and send alerts. These are private to your account.
- Your alert setting (on or off) and a record of which alerts we have sent you, so we don't send the same one twice.
Browsing and searching need no account.
Cookies and browser storage
When you are signed in we set one cookie, compseek_session, which keeps you signed in. Our
sign-in library also keeps your session in your browser's storage. We use no advertising or analytics
cookies and no tracking pixels.
Forms and spam protection
The request form on athlete pages asks for details and, optionally, an email address so we can reply. It is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Server logs
Like most websites, our servers log IP addresses and the pages requested. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure, and they are routinely rotated.
YouTube
CompSeek uses YouTube API Services. With its own YouTube channel (@compseek), CompSeek may post a comment under a public competition video listing the times each match starts. We never access visitors' YouTube accounts. Videos you watch through CompSeek are played by YouTube under the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Access that CompSeek has been given to a Google account can be revoked at Google security settings.
Who helps us run CompSeek
- Supabase: sign-in and accounts.
- Cloudflare: network delivery, and sending our emails.
- DigitalOcean: the server that hosts the site and its data.
- Google: reCAPTCHA and YouTube, as above.
- Stripe: card payments, if you buy anything. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us.
We don't sell personal data, and we don't share it with anyone else except where the law requires it.
Your choices
- Turn alerts off, unfollow, or unlink an athlete at any time in My CompSeek.
- Change your email in Account.
- To see, correct or delete your data, or delete your account, email [email protected] from your account's address. Deleting your account removes your email, linked athletes, follows and alert history.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and email account holders about significant changes.
